Pontefract theatre tickety-boo

About Us

After the sell-out success of their production of Bouncers (Re-mixed) written by John Godber and performed as part of Carleton Theatre Group in October 2008, David Thatcher and Rachel Swain decided to form Tickety-Boo Theatre Company in January 2009. Based close to the centre of Pontefract, Tickety-Boo Theatre Company is an amateur drama group that aims to stage plays of high quality.

The group is membership-free but welcomes performers and volunteer helpers that span the whole age range. The company's first production of "Bouncers (Re-mixed)" by John Godber took place at Thornycroft in May 2009 which then went on to win the Wakefield Drama Festival 2009. David Thatcher also won the award for Best Director and the play also won the Comedy Award.

In September 2009, we successfully stage the large-cast quirky comedy "Improbable Fiction" written by Alan Ayckbourn. In December 2009 the company hosted a "Pontefract Christmas Fayre" at The King's School as a fundraising event.

The first production of 2010 was the bittersweet comedy "We Love You Arthur" written by Fiona Evans. Performed in April, the play centred around the experiences of two teenage girls during the 1984/85 miners' strike. The production also featured video clips to help bring back the atmosphere of the time.

In September 2010 and 2011, we staged two fund-raising events that took place in the form of a Murder Mystery Evening at Halfpenny Lane Working Men's Club.

2010 ended with our fourth production, the warm-hearted comedy "Ladies Day" written by Amanda Whittington. For this production we moved venue to Pontefract Town Hall.

Our Spring 2011 production was "Blood Brothers" (the play) written by Willy Russell at Pontefract Town Hall. The two Blood Brothers won the Wakefield Drama Festival 2011 Adjudicator's Award.
