at Pontefract Town Hall “The 39 Steps” is a hilarious award-winning stage adaptation, based on John Buchan’s gripping whodunit and the famous 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock, which is currently in the middle of a long run in the West End. A man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps" is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have “The 39 Steps”. This is a fast-paced whodunit that appeals to both adults and children, regular theatre-goers and those that have never seen a play before. This award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, 139 zany characters (played by a cast of 4), an on-stage plane crash, the famous chase on the Flying Scotsman, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!
